The Sporting Irish Water Spaniel Club are hosting an online First-Aid seminar with Club Member and recently retired Vet , Mandy Clarkson.

Mandy will be teaching essential first aid skills to help you, help your dog should the need arise. There will be opportunity for discussion and questions during the event.

Location: Online via Google Meet.
Date: Tuesday the 19th of November:
Time: 19:00 until 20:00 (UK, GMT). Please note this session may overrun if there is a lot of participation in the Q&A.
Tickets: £5.00.

About Mandy;
Mandy has had dogs since she was a girl, starting off with Dandie Dinmont’s then added a lab.  After her lab passed Mandy decided to get an Irish Water Spaniel and has now had three.  Mandy went to Glasgow Vet School and was in small animal practice for 40 years until she retired last year.

 West Sussex seaside mingle on Saturday 2 November

Inviting all IWS owners and friends to join us at West Wittering’s fabulous beach for a circular stomp round a peninsular of sandy beach with easy access to the sea, backed by sand dune nature reserve. Dogs are welcome to paddle and swim. This is a great walk for blowing away the Autumn cobwebs, so dress warmly.

After our walk, we’ll lunch at a local Italian pizza and pasta restaurant, Cider House Kitchen – owned by the nearby Crouchers Hotel, which has dog-friendly rooms.

All friends of IWS are most welcome - for walk and/or lunch - whether or not you have an IWS at the moment!

Over the years the club has attended training with Dorothy who is a very experienced Gundog trainer. The training caters for all levels so if you have a puppy, a youngster or if you want your older dog to learn new skill or enhance the ones they have bring them along. The event has been very popular over the years so we recommend you book early to secure your place.

Cakes and hot drinks will be available but please bring some lunch with you.

Members and non-members are welcome to come along and attend for two days or only one it is up to you. It will be a fun and enjoyable experience and if you haven't seen a lot of Irish Water Spaniels all in one place before now's your chance. 

We will be having a social event on the Saturday evening so we can talk about out experiences with this beautiful breed.

Camping will be available on site and is including in the price. Please let us know when booking is you would like to camp and if you have a tent, Camper van, Caravan of Motor home.

There will also be the opportunity for non members to become members of the Sporting Irish Water Spaniel Club on the day too £15.00 single, £20.00 joint per annum.

Breed Confined Training weekend event, in Leyburn North Yorkshire DL8 5FA.    

The event is designed to introduce and give dogs and handlers the experience of the world of competition without the pressure of an actual working test. It is designed for dogs of all abilities and ages (from 6 months old). 

The trainer for the weekend is Mrs Yvonne Storr. Yvonne is an experienced Working Test Judge for Retriever and is on the Executive Committee member of the Golden Retriever Club Northumbria. Yvonne is very familiar with the Irish Water Spaniel as she has two of her own and she has also been one of the Judges for our Minor Breeds Working Test team event two years in a row.

Saturday and Sunday will consist of training activities such as obedience, steadiness, marked and blind retrieves, this may also include a water retrievers. The trainer will provide advice, individual feedback and will discuss what judges are looking for and how the scoring is done in a working test.

There is a campsite called Cow Close Caravan Leyburn https://www.cowclosecaravanandcamping.co.uk/ located next door to the land which has full facilities electric hook up, shower block etc. They also have camping pods. The town has many hotels which are dog friendly and also dog friendly pubs etc. There is also other camping near Leyburn, please google Camping Leyburn.

Minor retriever Breeds Team Working Test hosted by Sporting Irish Water Spaniel Club

A team consists of 3 dogs Plus 1 dog as reserve. (Novice standard). Team selection will be selected either at training days, or from members who are willing to have a go, and to travel. The final Team will be decided by the committee.

 1 day training with trainer Yvonne Storr. Yvonne is a working test judge and gundog trainer. She has two Irish Water Spaniels of her own so understands our beautiful dogs and she also breeds Golden Retrievers.

  The Sporting Irish Water Spaniel Club's first training of the year will now be held in Shrewsbury and not in Devon. Unfortunately, the trainer we have had for the past couple of years as advised us he is unwell and will not be able to do the training for us and we were unable to find someone to replace them in Devon.

The new venue in Shrewsbury is a place where we have visited a number of time for the Minority Breeds Working test so some of you may have been there in the past and it is a beautiful venue. https://www.facebook.com/uppershadymoor

Our trainer will be Rose Lewis who has many years of experience as Trainer, Judge and Breeder. Rose was our Judge when we hosted the Minority Breeds event two years ago and also Judged the event last year too. Rose is a mantrailing instructor which will be very interesting to hear about.
